BIG – Formgiving
Description
Explore the future through formgiving, an inspiring journey into the realms of design and architecture. This captivating book by BIG Bjarke Ingels Group delves into how we can actively shape our future, rather than just letting it unfold. The Danish concept of 'formgivning' embodies this idea beautifully as it translates to giving form to what hasn't taken shape yet. With formgiving, we hold the power to create our future, especially when our planet faces increasing challenges.
This book, a part of BIG's trilogy, visualizes the timeline from the Big Bang to the distant future. It is divided into six intriguing themes: Making, Sensing, Sustaining, Thinking, Healing, and Moving. These themes reflect multimedia-based concepts that intertwine with the building industry while embracing culture, climate, and natural energies.
Within over 700 pages, the book showcases a personal selection of visionary projects. From the LEGO House in Denmark to floating ecosystems and a ski slope-infused power plant, each project places sustainability and creativity at its core. Bjarke Ingels invites us to look back and forward, encouraging a vision where the future is crafted with intention, not left to chance.
Additionally, this book serves as a companion to an exhibition initially showcased at the Danish Architecture Center in Copenhagen. With over 65 projects documented, readers embark on a journey from conceptual stages to completion. These insights offer glimpses into the future and demonstrate BIG's relentless pursuit of transforming dreams into reality. Formgiving empowers us to shape the world of tomorrow.
